Cindy Papale-Hammontree
Cindy was born and raised in the New York area and is currently the administrative assistant at the University of Miami Psychological Services Center. Her twenty five years at the university includes twelve years at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center's Department of Surgery, where she worked for a breast surgeon.
In July 2000, Cindy's life changed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her story is a moving account of how one woman took a traumatic life experience and used it to help save other lives. The message she is taking to high school, college, and other young men and women is that breast cancer does not affect only older women. Cindy is currently the executive producer of a documentary about this reality.
Cindy Papale has now lectured to over sixty thousand students, has been on the front cover of the Miami Herald's "Neighbors" section and Miami Cancer Magazine, and has been chosen for the 2006 Strike Out Cancer Hall of Fame.
In October, 2007, Cindy's story also appeared in the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center's Quest Magazine, and Cindy has recently been elected as a board member of The Kristy Lasch Miracle Foundation www.kristylasch.org. The Kristy Lasch Miracle Foundation is a 501(c)3 Foundation, which helps young women under the age of thirty who financially qualify for medical related expenses. Before Kristy passed away, it was important for her to create this Foundation. Her parents Tom and Lynn Lasch did just that. We are currently seeking sponsors to help keep Kristy's Foundation up and running to help many young women who need financial help because as Kristy knew only to well that just her chemotherapy bills for one month amounted to $2,300 dollars.
Cindy also discusses being single and sharing with her family and friends her experiences in an article about Communicating with Your Loved Ones about breast Cancer released in the Living Beyond Breast Cancer newsletter in October, 2007.
Cindy Papale nominated to serve as the Secretary of Health on the board of advisors for The Luxury Chamber of Commerce. The Luxury Chamber of Commerce is a business and philanthropical networking organization which serves the needs of high net worth individuals, philanthropists, and those individuals deemed of service to them i.e. plastic surgeons, art brokers, jewelers, yacht brokers, exotic car dealers, etc. Our goal is to contrubute to a sustainable luxury marketplace in South Florida.
